Milly 1552

Milly... August 2015 Dog of the Month

Milly won the 'Best Rescue' category at Dorset Dogs Festival 2015

Jane tells us that she had had an awful previous life, being kept in terrible conditions for breeding purposes.

When rescued she could hardly walk due to her claws having grown into her pads, matted hair and teeth so rotten she could barely eat.

In her new happy, loved and cared-for life with Jane, Milly enjoys living & walking in the Wimborne area, including a stroll along the river to the Fox & Hounds pub.

Florrie 1544

Misty 1551

Mist

Mist lives in Sherborne with Loo - she's a little 4 month old collie who is enjoying being socialised in areas around Sherborne Castle and having a paddle in the water area too.

Pam says Molly & Dee Dee also enjoy Badbury Rings on the National Trust's Kingston Lacy Estate and Maiden Castle too - both wonderful walks with great views due to be added to our 'out & about' pages soon - if following in their footsteps be aware that at some times of year there are sheep so don't forget to take a lead!

Mullen 1563

Mullen

Collie cross Mullen takes Linda to Hengistbury Head, Iford Meadows, Upton Country Park and 'many more' - lucky Linda!

Jetta 1560

Jetta

Jetta lives in Dorset's county town of Dorchester.  This lab x collie has plenty of exercise around some of West Dorset's beautiful and varied coast & countryside - including Thorncombe Woods (where your dog can accompany you into a great dog-friendly cafe) and Bowleaze Cove, around Dorchester and Moreton Forest and also Ringstead to Osmington Mills, where you'll find dog-friendly Smugglers Inn.

Chloe 1562

Chloe

Guess the mix that made this lovely unusual lady?  - Border collie/spaniel/staffie!

Catie told us that Chloe lost a leg in a car accident before they adopted her.  Chloe is just 18 months old and enjoys her new life with 'lovely walks' around Blandford, in the Durweston, Stourpaine and Bryanston area where there is a great mix of countryside and riverside walks.

Robin 1554

Robin

Robin is a Brazilian Terrier - an unusual 2 year-old from Oxford who competes in dog agility.

In Oxford he walks the University Parks there and enjoys Nea Meadows, Highcliffe Beach and Steamer Point when he's in Dorset with Lucy.

KIRA & HARLEY - A German Shepherd and a Springer from Ensbury Park.

HARVEY & FREDDIE - rescued labs who Isobel says are 'totally spoilt' - in a good way!

SOOTY - a Cocker - Heidi says he loves woods and parks especially around Bryanston, but they find it hard to find dog-friendly beaches in summer - check out the 'Out & About' pages Heidi where you'll find some all-year round off-lead ones like Sandbanks West.

POPPY - whose owner Anna, like many of our members, would like to see more dog bins, emptied frequently, in appropriate places. Poppy is a Bichon Frise x Shihtzu.

GEORGE - a Pugalier - another fan of Upton Country Park so that's a fair distance from home in Shaftesbury!  We could do with more ideas for our 'Out & About' pages in the Shaftesbury area folks - Any Answers?  Melbury & Fontmell Down between there and Blandford are brilliant, what about others Shaftesbury/Gillingham area?

JESSIE a 4 month old collie cross - so Dave says Slades Farm's secure dog play area has been great.  There'a also one at Upton Country Park and we continue to look for more areas like this, both public and sole use, for training and exercise for dogs who need them, such as puppies just learning, dogs who may have behavioral issues requiring special training before being able to be safely off-lead or those with for example squirrel fetish!

LOTTIE - a young cocker from Leighton Buzzard who Lynne will be bringing to the sea at Dorset soon - Lynne you can also ask locals and visitors to Dorset who know the best spots on our Facebook page, as well as using our 'Out & About' and 'dog-friendly' pages to find some smashing spots.

LUCY - a Parsons Jack Russell from Frimley who is still gaining confidence with other dogs so tends to climb up Tina's legs at the moment!  She might like to get to know other dogs gently on one of our guided walkies events if you're in the area Tina - or you might find similar in Surrey?

TWIX - a lovely mixture of breeds and JACOB  a Sealyham Terrier, Tincletonian fans of some of our favorite woodlands like Puddletown, Moreton and Wareham Forest  (you'll find those on our Out and About pages), as well as historic Poundbury Hillfort.  Littlue says 'We're disappointed about the number of walkers who do not clear up after their dogs'.  We're with you on that Littlue, there are dog bins at Poundbury and we have a rundown on just some of the lesser-known reasons to clear up (as well as the obvious!) on the detailed part of the 'doggy do code'

NELLY - a a 7 year-old Rottweiler & TESS a 5 month old Collie cross from Ludwell on the Dorset/Wiltshire border.  Melissa says she finds her area is not terribly dog-friendly, but she does enjoy a good walk around King Alfred's Tower.

BUDDY - Patricia says this Basset Hound is gorgeous, a big and stubborn boy but loves his walks especially Badbury Rings and he's a very sociable dog who also loves Delph Woods.

TEASEL - a Londoner, a Border Terrier who Lesley Anne says loves long walks and the company of other dogs.  At home it's Richmond Park, in Dorset the more rural setting of Five Marys in the Winfrith area that they enjoy together.
