Woodsford, DT2 8AU Grid ref SY 762 904.
This is a nice scenic walk along the river Frome from Woodsford village and takes between 50 minutes and an hour so is ideal for high energy dogs. There are picturesque views over the Frome valley and the walk also takes you past the impressive thatched Woodsford Castle.
Part of the footpath runs alongside arable farmland so is usually suitable for letting dogs off for a run, provided they don’t stray into growing crops and damage them. There is also a small natural gravel beach leading down to the water at one point on the walk - a good spot for dogs to cool off in summer. Be aware that some fields can contain livestock and be sure to check thoroughly before letting them off the lead.
The section of path that runs next to the river is a reasonably good surface so may be suitable to rugged pushchairs and wheelchairs. Wet weather may make it a bit less accessible though so it is best to check beforehand.
There are 2 bus stops in Woodsford so this route is easy reached by public transport. For more information see the bus stop map here.
There are a couple of spots in the village where it is possible to park but if this proves difficult, there is also parking near the river between Woodsford and Tincleton, if you don’t mind doing the walk in a slightly different order.
There are no dog bins on this walk and as well as dog mess being unpleasant for other walkers, it can also be harmful to livestock so please pick up after your dog and dispose of it when you get home.
