Local Access Forum recruiting now

Would you like to improve and develop the paths and public green space network in Dorset?

is recruiting new members - NOW!

Do you responsibly enjoy and/or have expertise and experience in walking, horse riding, cycling, driving on Dorset’s Public Rights of Way and public green space for recreation, health and sustainable travel?  Then this could be your opportunity to make a real contribution in Dorset.

Be part of the team that helps develop and improve Dorset’s public paths and green space to benefit matters such as land management, recreation, health, equality and diversity, disabled access, planning, transport, economy, conservation and tourism.

Since it was established in 2002, the DLAF has made a real difference to improving and developing outdoor access. Current work includes shaping management and maintenance policy, agreeing the route of the Dorset coast path and improving links between Public Rights of Way and  public transport .

The forum is an independent, statutory body providing advice to various organisations including all local councils from county to parish, AONBs, English Heritage, Forestry Commission, Defra, Natural England and others.

We now have vacancies for new members, to represent the following categories:

• People who enjoy using paths and public green space for recreation and travel;
• Owners, occupiers and managers of land  esp with open access or PRoW;
• People with access-related interests, e.g. tourism, health, disability or transport.

The forum is likely to meet at least three times a year, with additional training and working groups as required.  Certain expenses and allowances can be claimed.

Dorset County Council, Bournemouth Borough Council and the Borough of Poole, as appointing authorities, provide support for forum members and the work they do.

If you have the time, experience and enthusiasm to make a valuable and constructive contribution to the work of the forum, an application form and information pack is available at
