Parvo Virus

Parvo-virus has claimed six dogs’ lives in Dorset

Hillside Veterinary Centre in Corfe Mullen has been informed by the animal warden at East Dorset District Council that there has been an outbreak of the highly infectious Parvo-virus in dogs, claiming six dogs’ lives in Dorchester.

Dog owners are warned that their dog is at risk particularly if they are un-vaccinated, their vaccines have lapsed or they are unsure.  The virus can be spread by casual contact with infected dogs or places where infected dogs have been, ie out on walks, the heathland etc.

Symptoms include severe gastro intestinal upset, namely vomiting and particularly severe diarrhoea and are more prevalent in younger and older dogs.

Hillside Vets warns that if you have any concerns whatsoever regarding your dog; you should contact your vet for immediate advice.

Hillside understands that members of the local District Councils are meeting Wednesday, 29 February to formulate a plan of action for Dorset.
